When Ron Driscoll learned he needed gallbladder surgery, all he could think about was his wife.

"Cathy had her gallbladder removed several years ago, and I'll never forget how much it took out of her." explained Ron a business executive. "She had a large incision and was in a lot of pain after the operation. She had to stay in the hospital for a week and really wasn't back to normal for about six weeks.
After taking care of Cathy, I knew I didn't want to go through that. And with my schedule, I just couldn't afford to be away from the office for a month or more."
Ron began to relax when his surgeon explained that most gallbladder surgery today is done using a minimally invasive, or laparoscopi, surgical technique. Rather than a 6- to 9-inch incision, Ron's surgery required only 4 tiny openings in his abdomen. As a result, he had minimal postoperative pain and a much faster recovery than traditional gallbladder patients, like Cathy.
Ron returned home the day following his surgery, took Cathy out to dinner 2 days later and was back to work within the week. Says Cathy about the laparoscopic procedure, "I'm just sorry it was too late for me."

Ron Driscoll's story is based on an actual patient case history.
